Maasdammer cheese is a delicious Dutch holey cheese. The characteristic holes in the cheese come in to being as an effect of the special preparation method and the distinctive maturation process. The formation of the air-bubbles causes the development of unusual flavourings that would not arise during a normal preparation process. The flavour of the holey cheese can be described as sweet and a bit nutty. Maasdammer has a great melting quality which makes it a suitable alternative to Emmentaler as a fondue cheese.
