Grey Dune Cheese is a special, organic cheese from De Zeekraal on Terschelling, made from fresh cow’s milk. This artisanal cheese owes its name to the light grey, natural rind that develops during the maturation process. This occurs through natural ripening in a moist environment, without the addition of artificial rind treatments.
The milk for this cheese comes from cows grazing on the herb-rich meadows between the Wadden dike and the dunes of Terschelling. The salty sea air and the rich variety of grasses and herbs provide a distinctive, full flavour. Thanks to the farm’s organic operations and nature-inclusive management, the milk is of exceptional quality, which is directly reflected in the cheese.
Grey Dune Cheese matures naturally for several months. This results in a firm yet creamy cheese with a slightly spicy flavour and a subtle salty note. The grey rind gives the cheese extra character, both in taste and appearance.
