Remeker Cheese

De Groote Voort is the birthplace of Remeker cheese, an authentic raw milk cheese made from the milk of Jersey cows. With respect for nature and tradition, the farm produces cheese of exceptional quality.
The Farm and Its History
De Groote Voort, a farm with a rich history dating back to 1650, is run by the Van de Voort family. The farm, located on Postweg in the Gelderse Valley, combines centuries-old traditions with modern innovations. The name ‘Van de Voort’ is derived from a ‘voort’, a ford in a stream. The current farm was built in 1925 and is now managed by Jan Dirk van de Voort and his sons.
Remeker Cheese – a Unique Product
Remeker cheese is the flagship product of De Groote Voort. This raw milk cheese is made from the milk of Jersey cows, known for their rich, creamy milk. By using natural ingredients such as organic rennet and aging with ghee (milk fat), Remeker cheese develops its unique natural rind and refined flavor. Its low salt content and traditional preparation make this cheese not only special but also suitable for low-sodium diets.
Sustainability and Craftsmanship
De Groote Voort aims for a fully natural working method. The farm is organically certified and does not use artificial fertilizers, antibiotics, or other synthetic agents. Jersey cows are fed grass and herbs grown on the farm, which makes the milk rich in flavor and nutrients.
Innovative Aging Methods
Remeker cheeses age in a specially designed room where high humidity and natural materials ensure optimal aging conditions. This process enhances the cheese’s distinctive flavor with subtle tones that develop as the cheese matures.
A Living Rind, a Living Product
During aging, a natural rind forms, protected from drying out by the farm’s own ghee. The molds that develop on the rind come from the cows’ environment and contribute to the unique character of Remeker cheese. This dedication to natural processes distinguishes Remeker as an authentic, artisanal product.
