Description Grana Padano PDO Cheese | Half a cheese 20 kilo - 44 lbs - Dish
Grana Padano is often compared to Parmesan cheese. They are quite similar in many ways. However, Parmesan is much more expensive and can only be produced in a small area in Italy.
Grana Padano, on the other hand, is made in a larger region of Northern Italy, stretching from the Po Valley to the Dolomites. Grana Padano is a dry cheese, making it lower in fat. It is naturally aged for about 14 months.

Grana Padano: an Italian classic
Many people confuse Grana Padano with the more famous Parmesan. The cheeses look similar. Like Parmesan, Grana Padano is a hard cheese made from cow’s milk. However, Parmesan may only be made in Parma. Grana Padano is not subject to the strict rules of Parmigiano Reggiano and is therefore also produced in other regions of Italy. That does not mean it is any less tasty! Grana Padano is delicious in salads, on pasta, or simply on its own. It is also a great addition to a cheese board.
What can you do with Grana Padano?
Because it is a hard cheese, you can easily shave, grate or crumble it. This makes it a versatile ingredient for cooking. For example, make an Italian salad with rocket, cherry tomatoes, pine nuts and balsamic vinegar. Crumble the cheese over the salad to give it a lovely salty bite. Grana Padano also works wonderfully on pasta dishes – just grate or crumble as much as you like. If your recipe calls for Parmesan but you don’t have it at home, Grana Padano is an excellent substitute.
On the cheese board
Just like Parmigiano Reggiano, Grana Padano works beautifully on a cheese board. Combine it with other Italian cheeses, French soft cheeses or Swiss cheeses. In summer, pair it with melon, ham, grapes and a robust white wine for a perfect starter. In short: you can go in many directions with this delicious Italian cheese.
